Just last month the Canadian artist made his debut on Asymmetric with a contribution to the labels ‘Effects of High Altitude’ compilation. Aside from that it’s been a very strong year for Beat Syndrome; a remix for Sea’s ‘Bajo de las Estrellas’ was released on System Recordings in January followed by a remix for Estroe’s newly launched Rosedale Records imprint. ‘Magnolia’ marks Beat Syndrome’s first single of 2015 and it includes a remix from Lonya & MayDan.
The original mix leads the release off and it showcases Beat Syndrome’s ever evolving, musical sound very well. Set against a dreamy storyboard the Canadian has marvellously intertwined various motifs and musical sketches for one very intriguing piece of electronica. It’s quirky hooks and modern laid back style are a joy to listen to and should prove deadly on a contemporary minded dance floor. There’s a lot of soul wrapped up in this one, and definitely one that brings new discoveries after each listen. Beautiful work from Beat Syndrome.
The lone interpretation of ‘Magnolia’ is provided by Lonya & MayDan who as a production team are making their first appearance on Asymmetric. The Israeli duo are two of the figures behind the label with Lonya being the owner and Maydan acting as part of the A&R team. Production wise they have worked together once in the past with a contribution to Incorrect Music’s ‘Basis XIIII’ compilation which was released in January of 2015. For their ‘Magnolia’ interpretation Lonya & MayDan have beefed up the groove considerably and simplified some of the gorgeous elements into deadly, disco-like hooks. The rhythms are so strong in fact that a one and a half minute break blows by in an instant and culminates with a dynamic build and huge third act conclusion. A monster remix from Lonya and MayDan which complements Beat Syndrome’s original very well. Great release from Asymmetric Recordings. Don’t miss it.
